The decision to finally drop the 74’s engine and begin tearing it down for rebuild was slow in coming, but to some degree actually started on August 16, 2018 when I started having some of the issues with it failing to run. This started out of nowhere, as it started reliably throughout 2017 and most…
Other People’s Parts – So aggravating!
So today was another futile day in trying to separate the struts from the spindles on those old parts. Two sessions of penetrating catalyst have resulted in nothing so tomorrow I think I’ll pull out the torch and try to see if heat will make a difference.
Planning Stages – 2019 has a lot of work!
One of the things I’ve been doing on my week off is trying to work through all of the VW tasks that need to occur in 2019. The key thing to get done this winter is the rebuild of the upgraded AH case and then the basic stock AR case. Getting those done will put…
I so love this photo!
I so love this picture of multiple racing 1303s. Slightly flared fenders are oh so sexy.
Hagerty Time-Lapse Rebuild – Commentary Vid
So last year Hagerty released this rather amazing time-lapse video of a complete rebuilding of an air-cooled VW Beetle engine. The production of the video is quite top notch. But I just came across a follow-up video to this rebuild which is more or less a “how it was made/commentary” on the video itself….
Żuczek B. Inspirations
I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it many times again, German Look is truly the ultimate distillation of perfection for the 70’s era Beetles. You can keep your 60’s era Cal Look cars. This is where it is at!
Where to begin…
Me babbling in the garage for 11 minutes this afternoon.
Parts tear down continues…
So the tearing down of the used parts I recently purchased continued today. One thing I pretty much am sure of now is that this early 73 Super that these parts came from sat. And it sat for a very very long time outside in the elements. That oxy-acetylene torch that the seller used to…
Other People’s Parts – A whole lot of control arms!
So the two 1303 control arms I purchased off The Samba Classifieds from Avery’s Air-Cooled finally arrived. These were the two I found and paid for earlier in the morning before I went down to southern Ohio and was sold the entire 1302 front suspension, spindles, and control arms for $30 total. I’ll have Mak…
I certainly hope this is the last tool I need.
So the cheap ass Raiseek Handgun .45 Caliber Pistol Cleaning Kit Brush Kit I purchased on Amazon finally arrived. Between the bore brushes I already own, and this kit, I should be able to do a 100% solid cleaning of all internal oil galleries and passages in the AH engine. I’m also hoping the cleaning work…
