To say that I’m disappointed with the the Other People’s Parts I got in yesterday is an understatement.
I had purchased these based on pictures, and I’ve learned my less from swap meets and parts posts on the net.
They are fine for most mechanical parts, and I suppose you could say “parts with little to no moving parts” but I just can’t risk any more unknown parts of an electrical nature.
The FI intake manifolds are pretty beat up and have been repaired in multiple areas. It almost looks like they were repaired with a brass weld of some kind, though I’m not all that familiar with welding materials. The goldish color is not what I’m used to seeing. I’m going to scrub them up and paint them to see if they are worth trying on the build, leaving the originals untouched.
Now the other parts look in worse shape than I thought.
I’m going to have to see if I can figure out how to test the Decel Valve, the Auxiliary Air Regulator, and the Thermo-Time Sensor.
Their metal casings may all clean up, but I’m not sure about their function or their electronic connections.
The real disappointment is with the injectors.
These did not come from any vehicle that was recently running. And by recent, I mean years.
The fuel lines on these are all rotten and shrunk, and took me almost 30 minutest to get them all cut off of things.
What really concerned me was what I did not see in the seller photos.
I am going to have to clean these up to be able to see any kind of markings, but I doubt these are original Bosch injectors.
Two have plastic intake and the other two have what looks like repaired metal double-barbed intakes. Definitely nothing like the originals I removed and sent off to be restored.
That’s not to see they aren’t still possibly functional. I just will have to spend $124 or so to see if they in fact are.
So known good parts that are not made anymore are the to injector holders, and the two small fuel rails that marry up with the lines.
However, one of them was missing the bracket that mounts them to the intake manifold.
I’ve got an ultrasonic cleaner arriving soon and hopefully some of this can be cleaned up.
I’m going to try to get the manifolds sanded up and cleaned and then repainted. If they are sound, I may just use them on the new build instead of repainting the originals.
