1979 VW Beetle - Restoration

Murbella – Day 38 – More tin painting.

Posted on 2020-06-09

I kept chugging along with the tin work today.

Some of it good. Some of it crappy when I sprayed too much and ended up with drips.

As always, I think I do a good solid job of cleaning and acetone washing everything as final prep and I appear to miss a spot or two that interacts poorly with the primer or paint.

Some of the tins barely look like they’ve been freshly painted. This VHT satin black enamel really matches the original paint on them.

I’ll sanding down a few areas (if they are visible form the engine bay) but if a drop of what-have-you is invisible or hidden I will probably just leave them as-is.

Yeah. A bit of a a half-ass… but oh well.

I ran out of primer and paint so I had to end today’s work.

This’ll all need a second coat and I still have the fan shroud, 3/4 tin, and valve covers to redo.

I’ll run to Autozone in the morning and snag a few more cans.

I need to figure out what I’m going to do with the heat exchanger tins. I still need to find someone to weld that small bit on the one, but since they were not black to begin with, I’m pretty much thinking I’ll continue to degrease and clean them and then just top coat them for protection and easier clean up.
