Murbella – Day 39 – New Throttle Body Seals

Posted on 2020-06-11

The Harwal oil seals arrived the other day so I test fit them into the throttle body.

These are the same seals that the guy on The Samba used on his bus throttle body.

Now they aren’t perfect fits as they are not a 1:1 replacement part.

However, I think they’ll do at keeping the seal sound, and also acting as s bushing for the shaft.

I still have some playing around with the fitment.

I’m trying them both ways, as either way will keep out debris and not allow any pressure/air to leak through.

The one at the TPS sensor fits best.

I’m thinking that if I just use a little bit of lithium grease on the inner diameter, the throttle body butterfly will move smoothly.

I’m not going to do a full mockup until I have all those small linkage parts fully cleaned. Maybe later today I can try to get it all assembled back together as a final fit. I still need to clean up the TPS case plastic and electrodes.

As I mentioned on a prior day, worst case scenario is the seals don’t work and I’m only out $20 or so.
