Murbella – Day 34 – Heat tin comparisons

Posted on 2020-06-05

So I threw some aftermarket heater tins in my cart since they were on sale. I knew from general appearance that the 75-79 FI tins differ substantially since the heat exchangers of these years are totally different from the 74 and earlier variety.

I figured at best, I may be able to use these to cut out parts of them to have welded onto to original 3/4 side to repair the mounting point that had completely broke off.

I still haven’t found someone to do the basic weld yet. I’m many weeks off from needing the repair done. I’m thinking part of the aftermarket ones could be cut out and welded onto the original.

Then again, I suppose I should look for any originals out there for sale. I’m already a shitload of money into this build with the restored distributor and all.

But real tins are expensive.
