Murbella didn’t get all of my attention today.
I spent about 30 minutes on the Subaru Forester.
Now I have a lot of the oil burning issues that plague can plague these cars. In fact, I often consume quite a bit of oil during normal operation and also get awful fuel economy on this vehicle. But I’ve learned to live with both.
I had been just throwing a cheap 10w40 in since it ate so much up. This is so not what the engine calls for though, which is full synthetic 0w20. I didn’t have any available when it last ate 2 quarts so well, let’s just say I have been running suboptimal oil and just feeding it to make sure it never dropped too low.
I ended up actually getting an OEM Subaru (15208AA15A) filter off Amazon and even splurged on a Subaru 803916010 gasket for the drain plug since any other gaskets were thrown away by previous oil changes at the quick lube place down the street.
While I don’t usually use any kind of “additives” in my modern dailies, I did decide to try an engine oil flush for sludge and deposits so that ran for 15 minutes idling in the car. No idea if it made any difference or not of course, as the oil that came out was so black as it always is in this car.
It now has 5.1 quarts of proper spec oil in it.
I am sure that 3 months will arrive faster than I’ll drive 3,000 miles now for the next oil change. I usually go by mileage and not time so 79,342 is the next goal. We’ll see what it looks like then.
