So as I previously mentioned, I decided to go back to using the EMPI EPC dual single barrel carbs I purchased and had originally intended for the new engine.
However, based on conversations with people as well as researching other people’s efforts with these, as well as the Weber ICTs they are cloned from, I’ve decided to make 2 key changes.
Jetting and Mods
So I pulled all of the jets out and for the most part, the info I found on the net was accurate as to what it shipped with jets.
I am going to follow Wayout Westie’s configuration recommendation even though he was running the engine in a Bus instead of a Beetle.
So I’m going to chance some of the jets but others are already fine with that recommendation.
Main Jet: 145 (came with 150)
Air Jet: 165 (came with 175)
Idle Jet: 55 (this is what it came with)
Needle Valve: 150 (came with 175)
Emulsion Tube: F-6 (this is what it came with)
Float Height: 8mm
Balance Tube
I am going to drill and tap the intake manifolds for a balance tube in the hopes that the idle issues I experienced during my break-in and frustration with dialing the engine in will be resolved. It was never getting it to idle below say 1100 that bothered me so much.
