I had some no-go emails this morning and then, finally, a positive response on rebuilding Murbella’s transaxle!!!
Jim’s Custom VW’s about 180 miles from here in Columbiana, OH got back to me this morning!
This is a massive load of worry off my shoulders.
I really didn’t want to have to crate up the trans and then ship it across country and it will be so much easier to throw it into the back of the Forester and drive it up north. And likely save a lot of money.
That said, he estimated $650-700.00 for the work I want done (and that does not include any unknown).
There are some online vendors where I can get a rebuilt transmission for just a bit more than that, so it comes down to if I want to maintain what purity Murbella has or not.
I don’t have storage space to have a transaxle just laying around that still inherently needs to be repaired, but I consider everything when it comes to larger dollar investments in money for product or service.
He also does machine work so it may be in my best interest to just look at everything I know I wanted done, and have the AH case bored for 94mm and clearanced for and 82 crank.
