Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this week!

Posted on 2020-01-122020-01-12

So this week is Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. Let’s see what’s up and coming on the block to see how people bid.

There’s a crap ton of VW’s so many it is hard to comment on them all. Some ones I’ll be interested in following the sale on…

1972 VW Beetle Custom – No reserve. I don’t see this one going more than $3K. While there’s some sorta ok ideas going on, the interior is one only a mother can love.

1973 VW Thing Custom – Another one I don’t think will remotely generate a solid price due to the choices.

1978 VW Super Convertible – Worth keeping on eye on since it is a one-owner survivor in the general condition Murbella is in.

1967 VW Beetle – If this restoration is totally stock with original parts restored this should go for over $20K. it looks nice, but the engine should have a stock 67 air cleaner and not that shitty chrome one.

1958 VW Custom Roadster – I certainly hope the 58 that sacrificed its life for this abomination was a total rust bucket. This is an odd art-house piece. $2K for the engine and wheels?

1969 VW Type 3 Squareback Custom – Not sure what this will do or the demand for a Type 3 custom.

1979 VW Super Convertible – A good looking but not stock restoration. Still have the FI. I would hope it would go for around $15K.

1966 VW Bus Custom – When is a VW not a VW? When it has a V8 put into it. Way to suck a critical component out of the car.

1974 VW Type 4 Model 412 – I hope this does well. Not much of a demand for these but I would love to have one. Happy to see this up.

1960 VW Karmann Ghia – This restoration may go upwards of $25K or more. Gorgeous.

1960 VW Samba 23 Window – I can easily see this going over $100K as others of this quality restoration have.

1979 VW Super Beetle – Given the condition of this triple-white, this could fetch $20K easily.

There’s plenty more Beetles, Busses, Ghias, and some dune buggies.

What’s sad though is there won’t be much television coverage of them, especially those early auction day Beetles but there will be some televised coverage from Tuesday to Sunday on Motortrend.
