While I have a ton of VW engine and performance books, YouTube, my Facebook Forums, and a slew of other sites that I reference for techniques and instructions, I love when a search for one thing ends up leading you down the rabbit hole of other things.
I discovered this Samba thread from 2011 titled Stock 1600 DP rebuild, step by step (by maboyce) that has a lot of great assembly pictures from a lot of different angles. This is the kind of stuff I really need to guide me, given that I have no mentor per se and the more info and images I have the better I can teach myself this.
First time I’ve really seen anybody using RTV on a a lot of these parts. He also uses quite a bit of Curil and some gaskets that I don’t see a lot of people using on stock 1600 rebuilds so I’m not sure if he’s being overly cautious (probably from some comments).
Definitely like his use or small brushes to control the application of gasket sealant.
There’s quite a bit to like in the thread. I’ll definitely refer to it in the future.
