So I happened to find a Type 4 engine that appears to be from a Porsche 914 on Craigslist.
The email I sent finally got a reply and it appears to be at a pawn shop on the other side of town.
They are asking $140 for the stand and the short block.
Now many European German Look Beetles have swaps to Type 4 engines.
However, my initial research on general parts costs shows them to be pretty high.
The stand appears to be a heavy duty one so it may be worth it for that.
I bet I could offer them $100 for the whole thing and they take it.
Who knows. The cam and crankshaft may be usable.
